This is our primary consideration. We evaluate everything through the lens of a photographer.
- Itinerary Design: Does the route maximize encounters with iconic species during peak activity? Does it account for lighting conditions (e.g., visiting certain sites in the morning for better light)?
- Vessel Layout: Is there a dedicated, climate-controlled camera room with ample charging stations and individual rinse tanks? Is the dive deck spacious enough to handle large camera rigs without crowding?
- Guide Expertise: Are guides trained to spot macro subjects, predict animal behavior, and position divers for the best shot without disturbing the wildlife?
- Flexibility: Does the operational plan allow for spontaneous changes to take advantage of unexpected opportunities, like a rare whale shark sighting?
2. Safety & Compliance (Weight: 30%)
There is no compromise on safety. Our standards meet and often exceed Indonesian and international maritime regulations.
- Vessel Certification: We only partner with vessels that have a valid Surat Ukur (Tonnage Certificate) and Surat Kelaikan Kapal (Seaworthiness Certificate) from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (Kementerian Perhubungan).
- Crew Credentials: Captains and engineers must hold the appropriate licenses (e.g., ANKAPIN/ATKAPIN). All dive staff must be insured, active-status PADI (or equivalent) professionals with EFR/First Aid certification.
- Emergency Preparedness: We conduct annual audits of our partners’ safety equipment (life rafts, EPIRB, satellite phones, DAN-standard oxygen kits) and review their emergency action plans (EAPs), including medevac protocols to Sorong.
